Kangnido Map

The Chinese not only formed perhaps the earliest civilisations, but saw the need for trade and defence of their wealth. It is no surprise that the Chinese armies were well equipped with gunpowder before Europe, and that with a long coastline they also formed a navy. To support their military and economic activities mapping and charting were developed.

Its name is actually Gangnido, which is short for: its Korean title Honil Gangni Yeokdae Gukdo Jido. The map was actually made in Korea in 1402 and was painted on silk.
